• Add a hypothesis only when the design and prior evidence support one.

Review supporting sources

Record what each source supports.

• Open the closest original or authoritative source.
• Record what it supports—and what it does not.
• Separate published evidence from suggested design choices.

Study design

Specify the study design and minimum data.

• Name the design and unit of analysis.
• Define the key variables, measures, or phenomena.
• Surface validity risks and the minimum data needed to continue.

Optional funding branch

Decide whether to search for funding now.

If relevant, record one plausible funding lead or mark funding search as a later task. Keep the research question and study design as the priority.

Review the saved research foundation.

• One selected question and reason for choosing it.
• A source-linked evidence record and study logic.
